Formed in 2010 at the Colburn School of Music, the Calidore Quartet has won several grand prizes in chamber music competitions including Fischoff, Coleman, Chesapeake, and Yellow Springs. Internationally, the group captured top prizes at the 2012 ARD International Competition in Munich and the 2012 Hamburg International Competition. Highlights of the 2013-14 season include a return to the renowned Schneider Concert Series in New York and the group’s Asian debut in Korea.

The Calidore Quartet has studied closely with such luminaries as Andre Roy, Arnold Steinhardt, Guillaume Sutre, Günter Pichler, Gerhard Schulz, Gabor Takacs Nagy, Paul Coletti, Ronald Leonard, and the Quatuor Ebène.

Formed in 2009 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, the Excelsa Quartet has won 1st Prize and the “EMCY Artprize” at the 26th Charles Hennen International Competition in The Netherlands. The Quartet has worked with members of the Guarneri and Mosaiques quartets, Roger Tapping, David Takeno, Martha Strongin Katz, Lucy Chapman and Benjamin Zander.

In addition, the group participated in the Professional Quartet Training Program under the tutelage of the Alban Berg Quartet at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Cologne, Germany.

The Excelsa Quartet was recently appointed University of Maryland’s Graduate Fellowship String Quartet for 2013-2016.

Formed in London in 2006, the Jubilee Quartet has won 1st prize at the 2010 Val Tidone International Chamber Music Competition and the 2013 St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition and 3rd prize at the 2013 Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition.

The quartet has mainly studied with professors Hatto Beyerle, Thomas Brandis, Garfield Jackson, Martin Outram, Jon Thorne and Günter Pichler.

The group also had the privilege to have the guidance of the Belcea Quartet, thanks to the support of the Belcea Charitable Trust.

Formed in 2003 at the Conservatory in Bratislava, the Mucha Quartet won the 2nd prize and the Audience Prize at the 2014 Premio Borciani Competition and 3rd prize at the 2012 Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award.

The group has studied under the tutelage of Stanislav Mucha and Ján Slávik at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and Johannes Meissl at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

Other teachers includes Peter Schuhmayer, Othmar Müller, Hatto Beyerle, Evgenia Epshtein, Jan Talich, Petr Prause, Josef Klusoň, András Keller and Günter Pichler.

The quartet will soon undertake an extensive tour of Slovakia.

Formed in 2003 at he Colburn School, the Amber Quartet has given numerous performances at Colburn, including the Brahms G Major Sextet with Martin Beaver and Clive Greensmith as part of the Colburn Chamber Music Series.

Other concerts include performances at the Laguna Beach and Sierra Madres Playhouses, as well as participating in community outreach concerts. This summer, the members of the Amber Quartet will be participants at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and at MISQA in Montreal. The group’s principal teachers are Clive Greensmith, Martin Beaver, and Arnold Steinhardt.

Formed in the winter of 2013 at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Benten Quartet is comprised of violinists Carina Vincenti and Colin Laursen, violist Emi Mizobuchi, and cellist Alex Glaubitz.

The quartet has worked extensively with Peter Salaff of the Cleveland Quartet, as well as Merry Peckham of the Cavani Quartet, and has performed locally in the Cleveland area as well as at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Additionally, the Benten Quartet has worked with William Preucil and Jaime Laredo, and plans to continue their studies at CIM in the fall of 2014.

The Penfield Quartet was formed in 2012 at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University under the guidance of Professor André J. Roy. Highlights of its young performing career include performances at the Lakeshore Chamber Music Society as well as in The Old Brick Church series of West Brome.

More recently, the quartet was featured in the Grande Première des Futures Étoiles Gala concert hosted by the Place des Arts Foundation at Théâtre Maisonneuve. They also have been features in a concert at Salle Bourgie as well as in a noon-hour series hosted by the Toronto Summer Music Festival.
